Alexander Stephen Cook

Hi, I'm Alex. I have been interested in Digital Media ever since I first took a Creative Media Studies course in my final two years at school and enjoyed the creativity so much that I took an advanced version in Post 16. Once those two years had flown past, I decided to continue my studies at Bath Spa University, studying Film, TV and Digital Production. In my first year and first few weeks, I began to study sound in film. Before then I had never learnt about sound in media. Over the year and into my second year I began to farther develop my knowledge and interests in audio recording. I became known as "The Sound Guy". In my third and final year I have become much more interested in Post-Production sound.

Over the years I have acquired a number of skills which have developed my understanding of digital media. Theses include but are not limited to:

  • Camera Operation.

  • Audio Recording.

  • Photography.

  • Photo Editing.

  • Video Editing.

  • Audio Editing!

I have several interests and hobbies:

  • I enjoy Writing short stories and one day I will have to finish one to upload here (Hehehe). I also enjoy writing Film Scripts. Something I began at Uni in my second year.

  • As you can see from one of my main tabs I like Photography. I have always thought of Landscapes a the best type of photo (only my opinion) however I can never seem to get them right. Macros, on the other hand, I like almost as much and seem to have a better eye for.

  • I love Reading. Mostly non-fiction. 'The Phantom of the Opera' is a great book and have enjoyed every minute of it but my favourite book of all is 'And Then There Were None'. It was so mysterious and engaging. It was a real 'page-turner' as people say.

  • I love listening to Classical, Game and Film Music. Music is an absolutely wonderful creation, Hardly a day goes by without me listening to some form of music. I really like the instrumental music that is featured in some of my favourite games and series like 'Final Fantasy' and 'The Legend of Zelda'. I also listen to a lot of Classical music too. I can't explain why. It is just simply the best type of music (Fact. Not opinion).

  • I regretted not learning the Piano at school so I have taken up lessons. It feels soothing to learn and be able to play a melody on an instrument.

I feel that anyone can say that someone famous has inspired them but if you stop and think about those around you then you can find qualities in your friends and family that are much more inspirational and meaningful to you.

It was using this logic where I found the two most inspirational people in my life. First is my older brother, Marc. He is the type of person who likes to get things done, maybe he would say differently but that is how I have always seen him. When I was younger I always believed he could do anything he wanted and was good at everything he did. Although I was jealous of that I also looked up to it, because I wanted to be like that. I suppose, in some ways, I still do.

The other person who has inspired me is my best friend Jack Arnold. He is a great teacher to me, kind of. He knows and understands more about photography than I do and is very insightful in showing and explaining new or better ways to improve my skills. Even in school I felt he was just one step ahead of me and that alone makes me want to try harder to catch up. I don't want to surpass him, I have never wanted to be better than him, I just want us to be equals. Hopefully I can repay him someday, with some wisdom of my own.
